The pleasant and popular village of Cornhill on Tweed lies near the Scottish Border, on the northern edge of Northumberland. Approximately one and a half miles away, Coldstream lies on the north side of the Tweed, which is spanned between the two by a fine 18th Century bridge with five arches. St Helen's Church in Cornhill is understood to date from the 11th Century with rebuilding and restoration work carried out in both the 18th and 19th Centuries, the Bell Tower being added in 1840. The village also includes a primary school, an excellent village shop with post office and coffee shop and the well regarded Collingwood Arms Hotel.
Nearby Coldstream offers a useful range of shops, bank, post office, garages and a variety of recreational and sporting facilities. There is ready access to Berwick upon Tweed, with its Elizabethan ramparts, and to the rugged and beautiful east coast while the surrounding area is mainly rich agricultural land with numerous stately homes and country houses open to the public at various times of the year. There are many sites of historic interest, too, including the nearby Flodden battlefield and there are fine golf courses in addition to fishing on the River Tweed and off the East coast and sea diving off St Abb's Head. There is a leisure complex in Berwick upon Tweed as well as an active theatre.
There are good road links with the main centres in the area, there is a main East Coast Line railway station at Berwick upon Tweed, and the A1 Trunk road offers excellent city links to Edinburgh and Newcastle, each with an international airport.
The property comes under the umbrella of Borders Health Board centred on Borders General Hospital in Melrose and, if desired and subject to availability, you may wish to choose the Scottish school system at Coldstream and Duns (Berwickshire High School) where a new school complex has recently been built. Contact is through the Education Department of Scottish Borders Council, Council Headquarters, Newtown St Boswells, Melrose.
20 Station Gardens, Cornhill on Tweed is a detached one and a half storey house constructed in the mid-1980's and providing bright, spacious and exceptionally versatile accommodation. As an alternative to offering an excellent home for a larger or extended family, the layout would allow formation of an office or studio suite on either the ground or upper floors, in addition to living accommodation, and could be ideal for people operating an internet based business, a chiropractic clinic, a photographic business or a small recording studio for music projects, to name but a few. Alternatively, with two public rooms, three bathrooms and up to six bedrooms, the property could make an excellent basis for a bed and breakfast business, particularly relevant perhaps given the high level of tourism in the region.
Double glazing and oil fired central heating are installed. The good sized garden is well screened and provides generous car parking space.
